Is It Safe To See The Dentist During COVID-19?

As we begin to enter the “new normal” of the COVID-19 outbreak, dental offices all throughout Missouri are reopening, and that includes Williamson Dental. But is it really safe to see the dentist for emergency dentistry or routine dental care? Read on, and see how we’re keeping you, your family, and our team members safe at our dental office in Festus.

Social Distancing Precautions At Our Office

As part of our reopening procedures, we’ve reconfigured our waiting area to provide more space between patients and maintain social distancing. We ask that, when possible, you come alone to your appointment unless you’re supervising a child or need the assistance of a caretaker. This helps reduce the number of people in our office at any given time, making it easier to maintain the proper distance between patients.

In addition, we will be seeing fewer patients and scheduling appointments with larger gaps between each patient to help reduce the number of people in our office and maintain proper distancing.

Proper Handwashing To Minimize Exposure Risk

Our dental team members have always followed guidelines from the CDC, ADA, OSHA, and other regulators to maintain proper hand hygiene, such as washing before and after seeing a patient, before and after putting on gloves, and after touching any potentially-contaminated surface or object.

Hand washing is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and exposure. So, for peace of mind, we also encourage our patients to wash their hands in our bathroom or use hand sanitizer to clean their hands before and after their appointment.

Proper PPE Use

All of our front office members will be wearing PPE such as face masks to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure. We request that you also wear a face mask or some kind of face-covering at your office if possible, in order to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

In addition, our dental team members are wearing PPE including N95 masks, eye protection and face shields, gowns, and even head and shoe coverings, when required. Proper PPE use is highly effective at reducing cross-contamination and preventing the spread of infectious viruses and bacteria.

Regular Disinfection Of All Office Surfaces

We are taking steps to disinfect operatories even more thoroughly, according to CDC, ADA and OSHA guidelines. Additionally, we are cleaning our waiting room and commonly-touched surfaces like doorknobs, counters, chairs, tables, and bathroom surfaces with EPA-registered, medical-grade disinfectant products.
